Fire/Earthquake Evacuation

If 911 is called use the location noted below:

Knox United Church
345 Pym St
Parksville, BC

It is the Directors’ responsibility to make the membership aware of the ER procedures.  A verbal reminder of the procedures are given at each meeting.  It is the member’s responsibility to make themselves familiar with those procedures.

Volunteer marshals monitor exits and ensure complete evacuation.  They will make themselves known at each meeting.  Washrooms will be checked before leaving.

Members who leave the meeting at any time before adjournment need to cross off their names on the sign in sheets.

Sign in sheets are used to verify successful building evacuation.  It is important that the information on the sign in sheets is accurate.

In the case of fire or earthquake, Guild Members in attendance should exit the building safely and go to the muster point were they will be checked off against the sign in sheet and await the ALL CLEAR.

Those with mobility issues should be aware of their surroundings and be sure to get assistance leaving the building.

The guild member responsible for overseeing the meeting sign in is also responsible for collecting the sheets in an emergency.

The muster point is at the light standard in the middle of the parking lot.  Do not leave or drive away until the all clear is given.

If a fire starts in the building, let a member of the Management Committee know and activate a fire alarm.

The ONLY person to contact 911 should be the meeting chairperson or their designate.  If you are designated to call,

**Alert the 911 dispatcher of the emergency and give the address as:

Knox United Church
345 Pym St
Parksville, BC
V9P 1C8 Canada

Members should not attempt to get into their cars and leave the area. Cars leaving may impede the fire department getting into the area.

Members attending evening meetings should carry a flash light or some other form of illumination in case of a power outage.
